URBANisM - BOATKILL
MECHELEN (BE)
LAUREATE OF THE CONTEST ORGANIZED BY DESIGN FLANDERS & CITY MECHELEN
ASSIGNMENT: An installation that redefines the parking space within the urban scenery.
DESIGN
& REALIZATION:
Cities emerged and lived at waterway intersections. A mythical sailing showpiece, the prah, historically expelled by the car, is safely sunk in a parking lot. Instead of floating on the water, the prah packs the water poetically.
"Boatkill", a fusion of prah and parking lot, turns out to wrap itself like a decorated car with mirror foil. Absent and prominent at the same time.
A cultural gem is brought back into the daylight and expels the ‘KING CAR’.
MEDIUM : Photo of realization, exposed in Mechelen
URBANISM
An installation that redefines the parking space within the urban scenery.
